“Brits Took Away Our Guns”
This has got to be one of the silliest Conservative responses to the “March for Our Lives” that took place, primarily in the USA but also in the UK, on Saturday, March 24. The fact (as if Conservatives could bother with facts… or balance.) is that the “March for Our Lives” was echoed in over 700 cities in the USA and in 37 foreign countries such as London, Sydney, Tokyo, Mumbai, and Iceland.
So—
- Not only is this meme singling out only one of about 100 foreign reverberations of the desire of US students not to be shot in their schools, but
- Nobody is trying to take away all guns—that’s a paranoid delusion of the NRA, designed to rile the base.
And let’s not forget—
- Most if not all of these participating foreign cities already have common-sense gun regulations that are already saving lives, and
- The “history” cited is based on the thesis of the NRA-financed gun-rights paranoid David B. Kopel and is more than a little biased: The Second Amendment was, and is, rooted in American Indian genocide and slave patrols (according to historian Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz). Indeed, there is a strong case to be made that the NRA is not only a gun lobby but a white supremacist organization.
You're welcome.
